Why I Created This Channel
Grief doesn’t follow a timeline. It doesn’t conveniently resolve after a few weeks or even months. Yet so much of the support available focuses only on those initial, acute days of loss—leaving those of us navigating the weeks, months, and years that follow feeling invisible and alone.
That’s why I created Grief Recovery with Gwen—a dedicated YouTube channel and community for women who are walking the long, winding path of grief after losing a partner, parent, or child.
From Personal Experience and Professional Expertise
In May 2025, my life changed forever when I was widowed. I know firsthand the weight of the silence in an empty house, the exhaustion of pushing through what I call the “three-month wall,” and the disorienting feeling of watching the world move on while your own calendar feels frozen in time.
But I also bring something unique to this space: over 35 years as an NHS midwife and nurse, followed by specialized training as a certified hypnotherapist and Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) practitioner. For years, I helped women through the intense, transformative threshold of bringing life into the world. Now, I find myself—and I find us—in what I call the labor of grief. It is just as raw, just as physical, and just as identity-shifting as birth.
This combination of lived experience and professional training allows me to hold space for grief in a way that honors both the emotional depth and the physiological reality of loss.
What Makes Grief Recovery with Gwen Different
We Don’t Rush the Process
Unlike many grief support resources that focus on “stages” or “getting over it,” this channel acknowledges that grief recovery is not about returning to who you were before. It’s about finding a way to carry your loss without it crushing you. It’s about understanding that your “slow” progress isn’t a failure—it’s the depth of your love finding its new shape.
We Go Deep
Drawing on my background in hypnotherapy and subconscious mind work, we’ll explore:
- The hidden patterns of grief that play out beneath conscious awareness
- The physical toll that grief takes on the body (sleep disruption, exhaustion, pain)
- How the nervous system processes profound loss
- Practical tools for navigating triggers, anniversaries, and identity shifts
- The intersection of grief and other life transitions (menopause, retirement, empty nest)
We Honor the Long Game
Whether you’re six months out like I am, or six years out, your grief is welcome here. This channel is for women who are navigating the messy middle—the part where the casseroles have stopped arriving, friends have returned to their lives, and you’re left wondering how to rebuild a life that looks nothing like the one you had before.
